aragon Information

Aragon was originally founded in the early 1980’s by Mondial Designs in New York, USA. The original Aragon 4004 amplifier was designed by Dan D’Agostino of Krell fame.

Indy Audio Labs was founded in late 2008 by three audio electronics engineers and a physicist who saw a vision for an affordable set of home entertainment products that bring together professional-grade audio performance, state-of-the-art control and connectivity, and simplified access to today’s content sources.

Like its predecessor, Mondial Designs, Indy Audio Labs designs and manufactures all of its audio components in the USA using custom fabricated parts and assemblies. Indy Audio Labs prides itself on remaining true to the original mission of Aragon – delivering the pinnacle of performance and value.

Aragon is the convergence of art and engineering executed with elegant simplicity. Aragon components are characterized by:

Extreme performance

Authentic reproduction

Elegant aesthetic

Reliable construction

Intuitive operation

From the feel of the sculpted aluminum chassis to the sound of the music, the Aragon experience is based on the reality of quality. Aragon is still fully designed and handcrafted in America and internationally acclaimed as the highest quality and finest value attainable in performance audio and video.

Aragon introduced its new line of products in 2012 to carry on the proud tradition of performance and Made in America quality and reliability. Starting with the Iridium, their flagship 400W monoblock amplifier, and the 8008 (mk III), their 200W dual monoblock amplifier, they brought back the same no-compromise, high-value approach to modern entertainment electronics perfected by Mondial Designs.

Experience one of the new generation Aragon products today:

two Iridiums form the heart of a serious 2-channel setup

The ultimate in amplification from Aragon, the Iridium is the new flagship Differential Monoblock Amplifier.  A natural evolution from its revered predecessor, the Palladium, two Iridiums form the heart of a serious 2-channel setup.

Circuit Description The new Iridium power supply is built around a massive 1.2kVA toroidal transformer feeding four 35A rectifiers and 140,000uF of capacitance. The output of the Iridium is internally wired for bridge-tied-load or “push-pull” mono operation. (An Iridium cannot be split into stereo operation.)  Other “bridgeable” designs, and similar to the Mondial Palladium, it’s predecessor, the Iridium’s monoblock operation is fixed in order to optimize power supply rails and high-frequency compensation.

The fully-discrete, balanced input stage is direct-coupled to a balanced current-mirror transconductance stage and audio DC voltage is maintained at zero volts at the output of the amplifier by an updated DC-servo design.  The new Iridium features a voltage-gain stage with transistors that have lower capacitance than it’s Mondial predecessor helping ensure a broad bandwidth and fast slew rate for the new amp.  The pre-driver and output stage BJTs are paralleled and precisely hand-matched across several parameters to ensure nearly identical performance from transistor-to-transistor, channel-to-channel and amplifier-to-amplifier.  Additional protection circuitry has been added but is strategically integrated outside the signal path so as not to have any impact on sound quality.  In summary, Indy Audio Labs created the new Iridium as a next-generation made-in-America amplifier which upholds all the technical attributes the original founders at Mondial held in high esteem.

Circuit Description The new 8008 circuitry consists internally of two, independent power supplies.  Identical to the its predecessor Mondial 4004 MK II and 8008 designs, two massive 0.5kVA toroidal transformers (made by Mondial’s original supplier) feed pairs of quad 35A bridge diode rectifiers which are then filtered by more than 140,000uF of capacitance to deliver a clean +/-70 volts to each channel.

The fully-discrete, balanced input stage is direct-coupled to a balanced current-mirror transconductance stage and audio DC voltage is maintained at zero volts at the output of the amplifier by an updated DC-servo design.  The new 8008 features a voltage-gain stage with transistors that have lower capacitance than it’s Mondial predecessor, helping ensure a broad bandwidth and fast slew rate for the new amp. Aragon doesn’t stop at high performance audio! All of their new models, the 8008 and Iridium include a state-of-the art network technology from Indy Audio Labs called E2C or “Enhanced Ethernet Control”.   E2C presents each Aragon unit as a device on the home network which can be controlled and monitored for convenience and reliability.  With an Aragon E2C-enabled pre-amp as a companion, the complexity of highly capable audio separates starts to disappear. While media standards may change every 6 months or so, Aragon owners can simply sit back, relax and enjoy years of trouble-free service from these highly coveted products
